With fond childhood memories of cooking and eating together, this family wanted to replace their tired, dysfunctional kitchen with a space that turned nostalgia into a reality. Their existing kitchen lacked storage for everyday items and provided little space for their relatives and friends to congregate.
The client wanted to create a contemporary space, harnessing a nude palette, incorporating some features to dazzle, and providing plenty of usable cooking space. A Sub-Zero fridge-freezer and a large gas hob were on the couple’s wish list. The design was to be contemporary in styling, but not clinical, with warm tones to complement the existing brickwork wall.
While a gloss finish was originally desired, the clients opted to go for a matt finish. Leicht Contino handleless cabinetry in Matt Sand Grey with antique, brass-edge grip handles on the tall units were chosen. The transformation is stunning; taking centre stage is a bespoke Stoneham island, incorporating a raised table/ breakfast bar, beautifully adorned with a Corian White Onyx surface and matching tiered framing detail.
Bulkheads and framing details disguise existing beams from a previous renovation, making the furniture look recessed and hiding elements such as the canopy extractor and spotlights, which send light cascading down the oven units.
A pendant light above the island and motion sensors add a touch of drama and ambience, as does the large antique bronze mirror that bounces light around the room, while large format tiles help create a spacious feel. The gloss finish is muted by the matt units and Corian surfaces, created a luxurious but understated feel.
"We are delighted with our new kitchen, KI listened to us and gave us a beautiful, well thought out design".
